Things we’re excited about in July

Summer is now officially almost half over, but don’t look at the glass half-empty; think of it as half-full because there are still plenty of fun activities and adventures to be excited about.

Things to do in Appleton July 2017

The fun kicks off with our nation’s Day of Independence – the Fourth of July! Festivals are happening all across northeastern Wisconsin, including Appleton where fireworks light up the sky on July 3 at dusk. The Appleton festival features live music and entertainment for families, and all proceeds raised will go to help children in need this Christmas. For more information on the event or to volunteer, click on this link.

With a festival full of food and drinks, you’ll probably feel like you need to work some of those calories off. Great news! You can do so at the Fox Firecracker 5K Run/Walk. This event starts at Riverview Middle School in Kaukauna at 8 a.m. This is the 10th year for the run/walk, so you can expect some sort of fun celebration to accompany the event.

If you can’t make it to an island this summer, don’t worry; The island is coming to you! Saturday, July 8, is Jimmy Buffet night at Timber Rattlers Stadium. This theme night is just one in a series of costume nights, and fans are encouraged to dress in their best island costumes as live music plays all night long.  Gates open at 5 p.m. and the game starts at 6:35 p.m.

Kids get a chance to see emergency vehicles up close at the Summer Fun in the Park – Touch a Truck event on July 12. It all starts at 5 p.m. and runs through 7:30 p.m. at Darboy Community Park. There will be more than just trucks at this event, though. Attendees can expect live music, bounce houses, barrel train rides, crafts and more. For more details on this event click here.

Adults can take in some old-time classics at the Appleton Old Car Show & Swap Meet on July 16. More than 1,200 vehicles will be on display at Piece Park, 1035 W. Prospect Ave., Appleton. This is one of the largest free car shows in the Midwest and typically brings more than 15,000 people to the Fox Valley. Cars of every style, including classic, hot rods, muscle and modified cars, will be on display from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

If you’re looking for something new, hip and different, check out Bazaar After Dark in Menasha on July 20. The fun starts after the sun goes down and the streets of Menasha come alive with music, food and festivities. The event is presented by Pulse Young Professional Network. For more information click here.

Lastly, July wraps up with one of the biggest art festivals in northeastern Wisconsin – Art in the Park. Artists from across the country will come to Appleton for this one-day event on July 30 to display their unique pieces, which will also be for sale. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at City Park, 500 E. Franklin St., Appleton. This is the 57th year for the event that acts as a huge tourist draw for the Fox Cities. This year nearly 200 artists are taking part in the event. If you would like to get in on all the action, you can find more details here.

So, whether you check out a car show, take in the fireworks displays or dive into some unique art and culture, there’s guaranteed to be an event for you happening in the Fox Valley this summer; You just have to go out and experience it!
