Social media demographics by age
Do you know which social media platforms your business should be on? They are constantly changing, and new apps are always popping up. It is important for you to know the best way to reach your audience through social media. Many businesses use social media demographics to help guide them to the correct channel.
You may be thinking, “can’t I just post the same thing on every channel?”
NO! It is essential to target each message to your audience.
Perhaps your business is trying to reach a wide age demographic. You should consider using multiple social platforms to reach your different audiences with your message and change the message to appeal to the majority age demographic using that platform.
For example, many companies are starting to use alternative social media channels to recruit employees. On top of using a more traditional platform like LinkedIn, businesses might also add Snapchat and Instagram posts to recruitment campaigns. Even though the message is similar, “we’re hiring,” you wouldn’t want to send out the same message on LinkedIn that you sent out on Instagram. Instead, adjust your message on LinkedIn to target managerial-level employees, and use platforms that trend younger to target entry-level employees. In this way, you can use multiple platforms to reach a larger audience while appealing to their interests and values.
Remember, the better you understand your audience and the media they consume, the more effective you will be in reaching them with your message. For more information about social media demographics broken down by age, see our infographic below.
